Blodgett Supply has installed working solar hot water systems in its Williston and Rutland locations. These units provide a dual purpose, first to provide free hot water to those sites, and second to act as demonstration and training units.
The Rutland installation is part of Blodgett’s unique Energy Conservation Center, which has working, live-fired energy efficient boilers and furnaces on display. Contractors and homeowners contemplating installation of new high efficiency heating equipment can see equipment from Baxi, Bryant, Smith, Utica and Biasi, all working. According to George Robbins, Rutland Manager, “we also coordinate with manufacturers to provide training for installers. Installing Solar was a natural complement to what we were already doing.”
The Williston installation gives homeowners and contractors a chance to see and touch the major components of a modern hot water solar system. “People are surprised by the intricacies and sophistication of a modern system”, according to Solar Manager Tom LaBarge. “They expect something a lot less complex, but are impressed by how intelligent the system is when it comes to extracting the most heat from the sun”.
Both installations are open to the general public during normal business hours, or by appointment.
