Company History

Blodgett was founded in 1848 as a cooking equipment manufacturer (The G.S. Blodgett Company doing business as Blodgett Ovens) located in Burlington, VT.  By the turn of the century, the Company had extended its metal working capability to include work on central heating systems in the Burlington area.

Both facets of the business grew, to the extent that Blodgett ownership decided to split manufacturing and the company’s plumbing, heating and distribution functions into two separate companies.  Blodgett Supply was separately incorporated in 1926.

Blodgett Supply’s initial focus was plumbing and heating, initially providing the supplies and labor, but rapidly changed to strictly wholesale distribution.  The Company also ventured into the wholesale distribution of appliances, and sold the first electric refrigerator, stove, and washing machine in the State of Vermont.

Over the years, the plumbing and heating focus of Blodgett grew to include air conditioning and commercial refrigeration.  As Blodgett’s plumbing operations expanded, the Company added branches to serve its customers, with Company headquarters in Williston, VT, and branches located in White River Jct, Newport, and Montpelier, VT, and Concord, NH and Ticonderoga, NY.  Blodgett’s Rutland, VT branch serves as a Central Distribution facility and Order Fulfillment branch.  All other branches are full service, with sales operations and a full inventory to support customers.

In 1990, Blodgett added a retail oriented showroom in Williston, The Blodgett Bath Showplace.  The Showplace is designed to assist customers in selecting products for new construction or remodeling of bath and kitchen projects.  Fulltime design professionals assist customers in choosing from the finest brands available in the decorative plumbing market.

Blodgett’s appliance distribution also has grown over the years.  While our original focus was Vermont, by the late 1980’s the Company had expanded to cover all of New England for the wholesale distribution of appliances, the last remaining wholesaler located in New England.  Blodgett is Speed Queen’s oldest US distributor, and also handles Crosley appliances, Broan and Premier Ranges throughout the territory.

Today Blodgett Supply is the largest Vermont, and veteran owned plumbing distributor in the market.
